VISION: As a living example of Christ, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Nashville, is widely recognized and respected as a leading charitable organization, delivering sustainable impact throughout Middle Tennessee.

Background

Using its core competencies of counseling and case management, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Nashville, provides an array of social services to a host of vulnerable Middle Tennessee populations, as it has for more than 57 years, with a primary focus on addressing community needs, working through collaborative community partnerships, and providing services to enhance the quality of life for those we serve.

Since its 1962 founding to care for Cuban refugees, especially those who were children at the time, its services have continually evolved to meet community needs. Service is provided to those in need without regard to religious, ethnic, cultural, national, or racial background.

The agency currently provides service to 38 Middle Tennessee counties (defined by the boundaries of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Nashville) through more than 40 initiatives and does that approximately 70,000 times annually to 11,000+ unduplicated clients. The agency continually seeks ways to use its core competencies to expand its coverage footprint.

Services include emergency housing assistance, case management, workforce development, adoption placement, employment placement, financial literacy training, emergency basic needs, and mental health counseling.

The agency's client base includes families struggling with homelessness, newly arrived refugees, children who are secondary victims of crime or at risk for abuse, seniors with little in the way of day-to-day support, victims of crime, women experiencing unplanned pregnancies, and others.

Impact

Recent highlights of service to our neighbors in need include:
* Welcomed more than 300 Afghan refugees to Nashville
* Added Family Resource Centers in six Middle Tennessee counties
* Launched job-training programs for the restaurant and construction industries
* Continued providing short-term, emergency assistance to individualsa and families in need

Needs

For 60 years, Catholic Charities has been on the forefront of meeting those in need throughout Middle Tennessee where they are in order to provide a realistic vision of hope and possibility. Our foundation is built on the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, rooted in sacred scripture.

In order to offer those who come to us in need an opportunity to find their own pathway to hope and possibility, we depend on a combination of our fully committed staff, loyal and devoted volunteers, generous donors, community partners (both private and public), and private and public funders.

In addition to the critically needed dollars and volunteers, we find essential resources in other ways, including donations of household goods used to set up new households in our community and gently used and new clothing for use during cold weather months and for school aged children, a better informed community, including elected and appointed officials on all levels, and community supporters for our causes.

CEO Statement

Judy Orr: Growth here in Middle Tennessee, as wonderful as it is in so many ways, has laid bare a new face on many old concerns.

Each and every day at Catholic Charities, we work very hard to chip away at these - one client at a time, one family at a time, one household at a time.

People often come to us as a last resort for a particular need. With a bit of preliminary conversation, we frequently find that one need has a long trail of other needs following close behind, and they are usually related.

Our job is not yet done.
