Mission

GRIN mission is to transform lives through the Legacy of Homeownership. We believe Homeownership is a right, not a privilege for hard working families.

Green Revitalization Initiative of Nashville "GRIN" 501c3 organization created to exclusively develop Affordable Housing for families who otherwise may not have opportunity to own a home. We provide Home Ownership Educational Training through our "Road to Homeownership", Down Payment Assistance in support of first-time Homeowners.
We believe Homeownership provides benefits to the stability of the family. Homeowner families generally experience a greater level of stability and health which could contribute to social benefits (civic engagement, social alliances, etc.) of the community.

Background

Since 2007 communities throughout the United States has fallen upon one of the worst economic eras since the great depression. The record loss of jobs, down economy and predatory lending, has made the American dream an American nightmare. With over 1 million homes foreclosing per year, leaving vacant homes to deterioration and many low-income families going homeless or being forced live in costly inefficient dwellings throughout this country and Nashville Middle Tennessee communities.

Green Revitalization Initiative of Nashville "GRIN" is a nonprofit corporation organized and operated exclusively for this purpose in August 2011. Specifically, our goal is to provides families the realistic reality of Homeownership through Development, Education and Training to those whom otherwise may not have opportunity to own a home. As GRIN commitment to being, effective organization dedicated in transforming lives through the Legacy of Homeownership.

Impact

GRIN goals are to address the disparity of homeownership and provide the benefits of homeownership.
Homeowner families generally experience a greater level of stability, which could contribute to social benefits (civic engagement, social alliances, etc.). The results of Affordable Housing has a substantial impact on community livability and sustainability when families obtain homeownership.

The positive outcomes include:

1. Better health, fewer behavioral problems; greater achievement for children in math and reading; lower high school dropout rates and higher school graduation rates.

2. Families enjoy better living conditions, are less likely to become involved with crime in their community.

3. Homeowners take greater overall fiscal responsibility understanding homeownership accumulate future wealth and the benefits of real estate taxes.

The results of positive behavioral characteristics will be passed down through legacy of homeownership, not just American Dream but, can be a reality to all. In recent years, the burst of the housing bubble combined with the recession temporarily negated the previous financial benefits of homeownership for some. However, historically the purchase of a home was an opportunity for families to build equity and add assets. Owning a home continues to be part of the American Dream for many and the financial advantages are being restored as the economy recovers.

GRIN will provide FREE certified homeownership education and training to families to create and restore the American Dream of Home Ownership. GRIN further assist families in need of down payment assistance in support of families purchasing a single family home after completion 8 - 16 hour course. The participant will receive a certificate of completion to be presented to mortgage lenders for home loan eligibility. GRIN goal is to develop 100 single family Affordable Homes in the Nashville Surrounding Area.
