Description
A four-week training program that provides entry-level workers with the knowledge and experience needed to professionally manage incoming phone calls and succeed in a customer service environment - whether in a call center or working remotely. Participants learn Microsoft and Google applications, clear communication strategies, email and phone etiquette, record entry and documentation, and other best practices for customer service.

Program Successes
LeRicko was born with spina bifida and has always required a wheelchair. Outwardly, he appeared successful at overcoming these challenges - even doing some modeling and acting in his youth. But he developed emotional problems that led to a decade of drug addiction and joblessness. In 2022, he completed addiction treatment and was referred to Goodwill for skills training and help finding employment. He enrolled in Goodwill's four-week Call Center training program and established himself as a top performer. After graduation, he was hired full-time in Goodwill's call center. The job brought him newfound hope and independence.

Description
Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee offers a Construction and Weatherization Training Program designed to help participants acquire the skills and knowledge needed to embark on rewarding careers in residential or industrial construction or related fields. Participants attend classes four days per week for four weeks at Goodwill's facility at 7237 Cockrill Bend Boulevard in West Nashville. Three hours of each day are spent in the classroom, and three are spent in the workshop. The course covers safety, construction math, hand and power tools, blueprints, rigging, weatherization, communication, forklift operation, employability skills and more. Graduates receive certification from the National Center for Construction, Education and Research (NCCER) and an OSHA 10 safety certification.

Program Successes
Anthony, a married father of six, got out of prison in 2014. After spending months trying to find a job while his wife supported the family, he came to Goodwill Career Solutions seeking help. He attended a job fair, took a computer class and received other services. Then, he completed Goodwill's Construction and Weatherization Training Program. Anthony formed a bond with the program's instructor, Tim Kahn. In February of 2015 - with Kahn's help - Anthony founded his own home repair service. In May of 2022, Anthony embraced another opportunity: He is now an instructor working with students in the Construction program to help them find success as he did. (Video: https://bit.ly/3sqYYEk)

Description
Teaches basic and advanced skills in commercial building cleaning through both classroom and hands-on training. This program is suitable for anyone interested in becoming a front-line cleaning and maintenance professional. The instruction, led by a CMI-certified trainer, teaches basic and advanced skills in commercial building cleaning through both classroom and hands-on training. Training begins upon acceptance into the program.
Program Successes
Laibao, an immigrant from China who struggled to find work here because of his inability to speak English, was accepted into Goodwill's Custodial Training Program in 2013 and went on to become a beloved member of Goodwill's housekeeping team. After his retirement in 2018, he continued to support Goodwill's mission through his financial gifts. Wan, now 87, returned to his native China in 2022 to live with his family.

Description
Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee provides free digital literacy training to equip individuals with the skills necessary to find, obtain and maintain employment in today's workforce.
- Our Basic Digital Literacy class is designed for new users who are interested in learning basic computer terminology; the use of a keyboard, mouse, icons, folders, and applications; Internet usage and navigation; use of email; basic resume creation skills; and online job search skills.
- Our Office Productivity Course is a three-day introduction to Microsoft Office suite and Google suite. Participants learn to use Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs & Google Sheets. The course also includes a review of Internet safety, website safety and Internet search.
Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee uses NorthStar Digital Literacy Assessments to determine which of our skills readiness courses would best benefit the client.

Description
GoodPaths is a 12-week training and development program designed to help promising Goodwill team members to increase their leadership abilities and job skills and achieve their career goals. Participants are assigned a Career Navigator to serve as a mentor and develop a customized plan of program activities to help them refine, prioritize and achieve their career goals. Along the way, participants also take interest and aptitude assessments, explore possible careers, receive computer skills training and receive financial literacy training. Senior staff members meet with participants to provide further career insights. The program was initiated in 2019 and has 97 graduates to date.
Program Successes
Manika, a single mother of five, first became pregnant when she was in the ninth-grade in Arizona. She dropped out of school, and for the next 15 years she dreamed of returning to school. Though she worked as a restaurant night manager, the death of her father and a series of poor life choices left her homeless. In 2015, Manika moved with her children to Cookeville, Tenn., and got a part-time job at Goodwill through a retail training program. Manika excelled and was promoted quickly, becoming a full-time store administrator. In 2019, she was selected for a leadership development program called GoodPaths. She was assigned a Career Navigator who motivated her to seek her high school equivalency diploma and helped her explore college opportunities. Manika earned her diploma in spring 2020. Description
Goodwill's two-week Introduction to Welding & Metal Fabrication class launched. This course can be utilized as a two-week extension course for graduates of our four-week Skilled Trades Program or as a stand-alone course for those with prior construction experience and an OSHA 10 certification. This course covers MIG welding, TIG welding, stick welding, welding techniques, hands-on projects, welding repairs, welding inspection and testing, and welding careers. Our welding workshop includes four individual welding booths as well as an instructor station for demonstrations.
Program Successes
After four years in prison, Jessica was determined to change her life. Tennessee Prison Outreach Ministry referred the 40-year-old to Goodwill, where she enrolled in the nonprofit's four-week Construction and Weatherization Training program at Cockrill Bend. The skills she acquired, such as jobsite safety, reading blueprints and using pneumatic tools, helped her land a job with a Nashville cabinet-maker and get an apartment. Then, she enrolled in Goodwill's Introduction to Welding class. During the class, she met a Tennessee College of Applied Technology representative who told her about TCAT's welding program. Jessica is now enrolled for the fall semester.

Goodwill conducts Google IT classes designed to equip job-seekers with the skills and knowledge needed to successfully find and maintain employment in today's competitive job market. Coursework is performed through Coursera, a leading online education provider, with short, engaging videos interspersed with active labs that simulate on-the-job troubleshooting. Participants also have access to Career Solutions trainers for assistance. Goodwill offers job placement assistance upon completion of the program, and graduates have the opportunity to share their resumes with top companies in the industry. Training begins upon acceptance into the program. Each course below represents a 12 to 18-week commitment requiring 16-20 hours of independent coursework per week and a weekly online or in-person class.

Shaheera, a mother of four, experienced domestic violence, homelessness and joblessness after emigrating to Nashville from Jordan. She sought help from Goodwill, setting her sights on our IT programs. Though she struggled at first to pass the entrance assessments because of a language barrier, she persisted and was ultimate accepted into the program. With Goodwill's help, she earned a Google IT Support Professional Certificate, which led to an apprenticeship at Accenture, where she now has a rewarding career. Shaheera's title is Application Development Analyst, and her promotion came with a substantial raise in salary as well as non-stop learning and development opportunities. Description
POWER Youth, a program funded by Metro Action Commission, provides high school internships for students ages 14-19 years of age for seven weeks of the summer. Goodwill serves the 16- to 19-year-old interns through paid internships and professional development classes. POWER Youth coordinates paid high school internships with community employers during the summer. During the school year, Goodwill's POWER Youth coordinator provides soft skills and professional development sessions, promotes POWER Youth summer programs and connects youth to other job and training options. Participants are Davidson County residents and are still enrolled and/or just graduated from high school. This program serves about 800 students annually and is focusing on improving the lives of our young people, our community and our city.

As a junior at Hillwood High School in North Nashville, Derek Nicholson had dreams of getting out of public housing and becoming an entrepreneur - but he knew he would need help. One day, a Goodwill employee visited his school, handing out information about Opportunity Now - Nashville's youth employment initiative (now called Power Youth). Derek applied, and in June of 2017 he began a paid internship in the Marketing Department at Goodwill. Despite having to work a second job at a restaurant to help support his family, Derek excelled in the program. The experience opened his eyes to educational opportunities and possible career paths. It also got him noticed, and soon after Derek was appointed to the Mayor's Youth Council. Today, he is at Austin Peay State University, studying for a degree in Marketing.
