Description
Some students cannot afford an instructional item (books, reeds, practice chanter, practice pad, sticks), let alone a drum or set of bagpipes. Our band would love to be in the position to provide loaner instruments or even give an instrument to a needy student. We would limit this program to our child students, ages 10-18 or 5th to 12th grade.Program budget is based on bagpipes, drum, case, and one year's reeds or sticks = up to $2000 (bagpipes) and the potential to award up to 10 sets in a year's time for a student in need.

Two 20 week beginning bagpipe classes. Via practice chanter and the Sandy Jones book, 'Beginning the Bagpipe', we work on the fundamentals of the instrument, scales and playing the first 1-3 tunes on the chanter.Beginner classes need chanter and book ($100 total from a student, this funding would make that free to a student). We run separate classes for children (age 10-18, grades 5-12) and adults (age 19+). Space for these lessons is currently provided by Woodmont Christian Church, but we're at capacity in the space we're in with 10 students and we need to find new space in order to grow to 20 or more.

Examples such as our own local Middle Tennessee Highland Games, have competitions for bagpipers of all ages and skill levels. However, the quality of competition, adjudication, and subsequent teaching by judges is not at the level of some of the more distant locations of bigger, international, competitions such as Dunedin, FL, Chicago, IL, and Canada's Maxville, ON. We have never made these trips due to the considerable expense and logistical complication of being greater than 500 miles, hotel nights, chaperones, meals, etc... Program budget would fund 2-3 of these trips.
