Family Reconciliation's sole program is our guest house, where we provide free overnight rooms to anyone visiting an incarcerated loved one.
Program Successes
The first time we met Mary, it was a beautiful, mild Saturday in September of 2018. She was standing in our front yard, peeking into our living room window. Mary knew she looked silly, but when you have small children, you tend to be cautious. "I just wanted to be careful, especially with the children," Mary says, "that I was taking them someplace safe, good, and healthy." And while Mary said she got a good feeling while talking to our House Managers over the phone, she still had to see it to believe it. "We live in Knoxville. Because of schedules, we normally visited on Sundays. This involved leaving very early, driving three hours, going through the [prison] check-in process, visiting most of the day, then a three-hour drive back and getting home late. And the kids had school the next morning," Mary recalls. "That is a hard day for all." But staying for the weekend was just too expensive. "Then, we found Family Reconciliation," she says. "What a gift from God and a blessing it was."

Long-term Success
Family Reconciliation has been offering free lodging to inmates' loved ones since 1984. Our organization has served hundreds of inmates and thousands of their families and friends over the years through our guest house. And we plan to be here for decades more to come. In April of 2019, we purchased the property on which we operate, which we had previously rented, and used the additional capital campaign funds raised to begin making critical infrastructure updates to our facilities.

By providing safe, clean, free lodging for inmates' families, we ensure that children with incarcerated parents, individuals with incarcerated partners, and parents with incarercated children can access their loved ones without cost prohibiting visitation. Our guest house removes the most basic economic barrier to prison visitation-affordable lodging-so that inmates and their loved ones can focus on their relationships and healing instead.
Short-term Success
In 2019, we've booked 119 unique guests from 17 states. In total, those guests accounted for 245 reservations spanning 556 room nights.
