Description
The first annual Southern Kid Literary Festival (SoKidLit) connects young readers with professional authors and empowers children to see themselves as writers. It is a free one-day event for children in grades 3 through 5. It will be hosted on the campus of MTSU, welcoming children and their families, educators, and community members from across Middle Tennessee and beyond. Professional authors will read and sign books, share their writing experience and techniques, participate in an onsite bookstore and book signing experience. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a "writer's studio" and to share their writing with a supportive community audience on a writer's stage. This event is FREE for attendees. Each child will walk away with a SoKidLit writing journal, pen and a signed book by one of featured authors. Inspired by the Southeastern Young Adult Book Festival (SEYA), a collaboration of the RAA and its literary arts interest group, the MTSU College of Education.
Program Successes
This initial year had 100 plus students attend; 11 authors held workshops, $2400 in book sales were made; 4 working artists taught, 200 plus books were given away for free and a collaboration between the Barnes and Noble Bookstore, the Middle Tennessee State University Department of Education, the Rutherford Arts Alliance and the Rutherford Lit organizations occurred for the first time ever.

Economically disadvantaged people
Long-term Success
The primary goal of SoKidLit is to develop and celebrate enthusiasm for current children's literature, thereby advancing literacy and education in the community. The long term success will be difficult to calculate. As the program grows in number of participants the possibility of tracking the reading skills and the returning attendees could give insight into the improvement of scholastic scores and the frequency the schools libraries are utilized by the students whom attended and the teachers whom helped to format the festival and who attended with these students.
Short-term Success
Short term success is shown by the number of authors who request to participate again, spread the word to other authors to participate in the future and to number of student attendees going forward. By the end of the festival 100 plus students (and family members) received a free book each, participated in an illustration and writing workshop and worked within a roundtable discussion with the leading authors.
Program Success Monitored By
The program is monitored by the author, teacher and students comments, a post festival evaluation by the staff and traction on social media for shares, likes and comments. More ways will be evaluated as the festival programming grows in future years.

Description
"Women Who Inspire Us," is a community partnership created to give voice to women from the past who have shaped our history and culture. Organized by the Rutherford Arts Alliance, the partnership seeks to encourage a local sense of place through recognition of a diverse, representational group of historic women. Waving her magic wand, the Boro Bash Arts Advocate of 2019 challenged the performing arts community to use historical local stories to enhance our sense of place in Rutherford County. This challenge was echoed in the mission of the Rutherford ARTS Alliance:

Promote Rutherford County as a cultural and heritage community and destination
Communicate the social and economic impact of the arts
Create opportunities for networking, collaboration, education, and economic success
