Scope: This program will focus on the essential training and skill development to ensure their success in any environment by cultivating their academic, social, mental, and athletic capability through a collage of hands-on activities that inspire healthy conversation about frequently overlooked topics. We believe community service is an aspect of utilizing the platform of sports in a positive way. This event is a collaborative effort by the Nashville Community to donate bicycles for over 100 kids in Nashville. According to the annual Point In Time count required by the Federal Government, the number of homeless people in Nashville has dropped from 2,335 in 2013 to 2,301 in 2014. The median household income for the East Nashville community is approximately $11,000 less than the average for Davidson County. With such statistics, we want to continue providing the youth with outlets for proper nourishment and exercise. Our bike explosion is a step in that direction. By having local law enforcement come to show the kids proper safety precautions and bicycle safety, we also hope to build a sense of trust between the East Nashville community and law enforcement.

Elbert Nathaniel Rich III, better known as "Trey Rich" was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. Trey went on to amass numerous accomplishments as an athlete at White Station High School and decided he wanted to follow that passion to college. After completing his senior season at Belhaven Christian College, Trey was making plans to play in the NFL or start his business in Sports Administration. While riding his bike to work, December 24, 2014, Trey was killed by a drunk driver and his dreams were cut short. The Trey Rich Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a male student-athlete that embodies the determination, servitude, and dedication exemplified by Trey. Our scholarship recipients possess character that allows them to follow their dreams by striving daily to overcome obstacles and defy limitations. With his consistency, the student-athlete that receives this scholarship allows his actions to serve as the blueprint for others to follow.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments

Because of the tremendous growth of non-profit organization's over the last 10 years, the school system has become somewhat callused to genuine efforts of organizations with similar missions. Because of this red-tape, exposure to school resources becomes limited. We currently operate without a physical facility, and facility rental fees can throw a curveball in our program budget. We hope to receive funding that allows us to establish our own facility for youth to participate in several programs. We are also finding that many educational administrators do not act with a sense of urgency on funding opportunities for their student-body. We are addressing this issue by partnering with grant writers who are able to solidify operational facility grant funding. To address the lack of urgency, we are looking to become a MNPS Pencil Partner starting during the 2017-2018 school year.
