Description
Just.Wash is a mobile car wash service that employs people with barriers to employment. Our employees come from a variety of backgrounds, but all are survivors of trauma such as homelessness, incarceration, addiction, mental illness and domestic violence. We are convinced that no social service has the potential to provide lasting change the way employment can, so while you're getting your car nice and clean, you'll also provide a job for someone society can easily overlook.

Just.Wash is unique because not only do we employ marginalized people, we also keep it simple. There are many mobile car detailing services in Nashville that will charge between $85-$200 for professionally detailing your car, but sometimes you just need a basic wash that's affordable, convenient and reliable. And because we value sustainability, you can be assured that our wash uses minimal water and our chemicals are environmentally friendly.

Description
Our core business to date is Just.Glass, a glass recycling pick-up service. Nashville lacks a city-wide solution to glass recycling. Residents of Metro Nashville can drop off glass at the recycling convenience centers, but curbside pickup isn't an option. Since the convenience centers don't allow commercial drop off, the only commercial solution for glass recycling is to pay for the service. Nashville also has more than our share of neighbors who are chronically un/underemployed, which can trigger homelessness, substance abuse and generational poverty leaving them stuck in a seemingly unbreakable cycle.

Just.Glass is a solution to both! Our glass recycling service keeps glass out of our area landfills, while also employing some of our city's most marginalized people. In 2021, Just.Glass recycled more than 250 tons of glass and provided almost 11,000 hours of work to our team.

Justice Industries partners with Spring Back, a like-minded organization, to pick up older mattresses that can be recycled instead of discarded. Additionally, we partner with Casper, a high end, online mattress company that allows a 30 day trial period to their customers, who, if dissatisfied, may call for a return pickup. We pick up these 'barely used' mattresses to donate to people in need, through Graceworks Ministries.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments

Our ultimate goal is for our programs to pay for themselves, but we do struggle to find the right price point so we can offer our employees a 'living wage.' We strive to stay competitive, while also giving our employees the best possible pay rate. Working with our target population also comes with challenges many 'traditional' companies might not face such as employees' lack of technology skills, a permanent address, or reliable transportation. Because of that, it takes some administrative overhead to manage the details as we work to give our employees jobs and improve their job skills. Related to our Just.Glass enterprise, we are working toward developing a secondary market for recycled glass. In the process, we have discovered the extensive challenges related to actually re-purposing glass in the Nashville area. . We believe that a solution can be developed locally and in 2021 we began an important relationship with Strategic Materials, a leader in the recycling industry with a plant in Ashland City, TN, to find a sustainable solution.
