We contract with the State of Tennessee as an Early Intervention Resource Agency to provide developmental therapy to families in Wilson County. Early intervention is a federal program to help families with children birth through two years of age who have been identified as having developmental delay. The Tennessee Early Intervention System accepts referrals from families, pediatricians, and other agencies when there are concerns about a child's development. Our Early Intervention service providers always look like they are having fun blowing bubbles, stacking blocks, reading books and crawling on the floor. They are not just playing, but are teaching families how to help their children grow social skills, explore their surroundings and become more independent,

Then ESTN Supported Employment program is growing out of necessity and the realization that our special population has the ability to create possibilities for themselves and their employers. We have learned that they desire to and can seek employment with assistance, such as, with the job search, resume building, and interview skills, all facets that we offer them here at ESTN. Besides, employment offers not only income, but identity as a valued and productive member of the community. Sadly, the rates of unemployment for people with disabilities are nearly three times those of almost all other groups of Americans. However, we want to change these statistics. And luckily, there have also been important strides made in how people with disabilities are perceived, along with there being an increase access to employment for a broadened segment of youth, adults and seniors with disabilities. Among the most important shifts we have seen include: The shift to matching people skills and abilities to the requirements of existing jobs. The increase use of assistive technology and job re-design. Widened acceptance of the principles of accommodations. And increased training and supervision provided at worksites. In addition, by employing our special population, we are giving them confidence, independence, and income, all of which build a future for them.
