Philip's Experience: Capts. Philip and Elaine Canning were appointed as the Nashville Area Commanders and assumed their post in late June 20, 2022. The Cannings have served as Salvation Army officers for over 15 years. Capts. Philip and Elaine Canning have most recently served in Atlanta, Ga at the Georgia Divisional Headquarters as General Secretary and Secretary of Programs respectively. Previously, the Cannings were the Area Commander of Augusta Area Command and Kroc Center. Capt. Philip Canning has a bachelor of arts in business administration with an emphasis on finance, and a master of science in personal financial planning. He has professional experience in both the corporate and Army world, spending 10 years as a financial adviser for Morgan Stanley and three years as the director of operations for the Atlanta Temple Corps. Captain Elaine Canning has a bachelor of science in psychology and a minor in political science. She also has professional experience in both the corporate and Army world. She worked for the president of an aesthetic dental firm in Atlanta, at the Evangeline Booth College School for Continuing Education, and at the Southern territorial headquarters in Atlanta as the editor of The Salvation Army's Disposition of Forces. Philip and Elaine, with their two children Abigail and Jackson, are excited to be joining the Nashville community and look forward to enjoying the sights and sounds of the Nashville area. |
