Where did you form your friendships? Through school, work, church, or a hobby?

At Friends Life Community we celebrate the power of friendship by acknowledging the similarities and differences each person offers to the broader community. So often individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) are isolated and limited in daily activities or programming.

Fearing that their loved one would be relegated to isolation after high school, four parents and a community advocate created FLC 15 years ago, because they wanted their loved one to experience life with friends. By attending FLC the Friends are exposed to new opportunities, challenged to go outside their comfort zone, and empowered to be themselves - resulting in authentic friendships that everyone desires.

As we celebrate Friendship Day on August 6th, we ask you to join us in honoring the beauty found deep within each friendship. Friendships are created at FLC over a conversation at lunch, volunteering together at a local nonprofit, admiring someone's artwork in the art studio, sitting on the front porch visiting or taking a walk in the park. By providing these opportunities, FLC is igniting lifelong friendships amongst our participants and the community.

$50 funds one Lunch Bunch class: 5 Friends cook, laugh, learn, and eat lunch together.

$150 funds Open Studio: 10 Friends make and share art to enjoy with each other and display in the community under the instruction of two masters-level art teachers.

$250 funds transportation for one month: all 50 Friends are active in the community, volunteering, passing out ice cream, performing their original art, and exploring new places, allowing them to break down barriers of stigmas and build friendships throughout Nashville .

$500 funds Friends of 615 Social Club: a monthly social group of 20 like-minded adults building meaningful friendships and connecting through shared experiences and mentorship in employment, socialization, life skills, and having fun.
