The Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation is dedicated to changing the future of cancer by funding advanced, innovative research that treats the cancer while sparing the patient.
Background
At SHCF, we strive in creating Alliance partners of all sizes to create a movement that empowers large groups to work together and unite in the efforts of our mission. Our Founder is alive today after surviving cancer and 3 brain tumors because of his efforts in health, wellness, and early detection. Thankfully, his ability to work as an advocate and activist solidifies our intent to create more Alliance partners to create an even bigger movement to save lives. Our Board and Staff work tirelessly in ensuring our events produce high-efficiency margins to complement our donors and their investment in our events to ultimately support our mission.
Our founder Scott Hamilton is not new to philanthropy or cancer. Scott's motto in life is "the only disability is a bad attitude." One of the most sought after keynote speakers and most popular figure skating stars in the world today, Scott Hamilton is an Olympic Gold Medalist, Network TV skating analyst, actor, performer, producer, Emmy Award nominee, best-selling author, role model, humanitarian, philanthropist, and cancer and brain tumor survivor. Even more importantly for Scott, he is a Christian, husband, and father to four beautiful children. As a keynote speaker, he exudes enthusiasm and inspiration. As a figure skater, he forever bridges the gap between sports and entertainment. As a role model, he contradicts the saying that "good guys finish last." As a humanitarian, he avails himself to any plight that will improve mankind. But, more importantly, as a cancer survivor he is a constant reminder that with fortitude and determination, anything is possible. Scott's much-publicized bout with testicular cancer in 1997, and his November 2004 diagnosis and July 2010 recurrence and August 2017 recurrence of a benign brain tumor has touched him with a special insight into the life and human vulnerabilities. Scott has participated in a wide variety of charitable activities throughout his adult life. He founded the Scott Hamilton CARES Initiative at the Taussig Cancer Institute at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, as well as the 4th Angel Mentoring Program and ChemoCare.com. This wonderful initiative led to Scott founding his own foundation.
Impact
CARES strives to empower research scientists to identify better outcomes through the advancement of immunotherapy and the expansion of proton therapy and to establish partnerships with others thriving in the cancer community. CARES was established as a 501(c) 3 as a national identity in the cancer community. CARES, which stands for Cancer Alliance for Research, Education and Survivorship, and is creating a cancer network that is built upon strong partnerships with leading institutions, cancer support groups and researchers from around the nation.
CARES has 34 healthcare partners around the nation by supporting cutting-edge research of all types of cancer that affect adults or children. We partner with our premier Scientific Advisory Committee, comprised of the nation's top doctors and scientists in cancer research, to vet the best research and funding needs. CARES invests in the best scientists making huge strides in the fight against cancer.
Needs
We are looking to advance the research in immunotherapy in 2023 and our call to action is to help us fund precision-targeted therapy to help those living with cancer. Join us in keeping our science funded so we will have better outcomes for those diagnosed with cancer.

Board Chair Statement
I am honored to welcome you to my cancer foundation. My purpose, along with my staff, board and volunteers, is to bring our community together to benefit you, your families and friends. Cancer is a disease that affects each, and every one of us. Whether you are a survivor, lost a family member, or know someone that has been affected by cancer, we all need to come together and fight this insidious disease. The statistics are staggering. One of two men and one of three women will face a cancer diagnosis. One of four diagnosed will lose their battle. We come together to fight back and also to celebrate survivorship. This year marks the 44th year I have been at war with cancer. On May 17th, 1977, I lost my mother to cancer. It was after I lost her that I decided to do everything I could to raise money for research. Then, 21 years later, almost to the day, I was diagnosed with cancer. Suddenly, I knew what if felt like to go through chemotherapy, surgery, and the emotional and spiritual challenges that come with cancer. I had to do whatever I could to change the way the cancer world operate. Our focus in my foundation is research and to bring the future of cancer treatment to the present. To make sure that we replace the status quo of chemotherapy and traditional radiation, with much better options. To treat the cancer and spare the patient harm.
My job and yours is to come together to celebrate life while raising the necessary funds to advance our mission. We are here to do the work that needs to be done in a timely manner with the end goal of protecting and extending quality of life. I come to you as an open invitation to be involved, while being in a community that has joined me and want to turn cancer upside down. Every day I wake up grateful that I am a cancer survivor and determined to eradicate cancer in my lifetime. Through my foundation, we are funding cutting edge research, building greater community events and celebrating survivorship.

The Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation is headquartered in Franklin, Tennessee. We serve all of Tennessee and are proud to partner in the health care mecca of middle Tennessee. We are located, at no charge for rent, in the Provision CARES Center for Proton Therapy.
