Mission
Williamson College equips and empowers graduates to be on mission in the world for Christ through a rigorous academic environment.
Background
1. In 1996, the College was incorporated with the Secretary of State of the State of Tennessee. Application was made for college status with the Tennessee Higher Education Commission; approval was given in April 1997. The original approval for the College was for the baccalaureate degree to be granted in two majors: Management & Ethics and Leadership & Ministry. In April 2003 THEC approved a new major in Music and Worship Leadership. In May 2003, THEC approved the granting of the Bachelor of Science degree in Management and Ethics, Leadership and Ministry, and in Music and Worship Leadership. The College offers general education courses and two majors online. 2. The College enrolled its first students in credit and noncredit courses in the fall of 1998. On August 13, 2000, Williamson Christian College had its first Baccalaureate and Commencement ceremony. The College began with a strong orientation to provide both onsite and online access to its constituencies. 3. During the year 2000, Williamson Christian College obtained Candidate Status in accreditation with the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS) as well as Applicant Status with the Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE). Accreditation by TRACS was effective March 20, 2002, and Candidate Status with ABHE was approved in February 2003. Accreditation by ABHE was effective February 21, 2007. Accreditation reaffirmation of 10 years was granted by TRACS in April 2008. 4. The College's curriculum is designed to meet the educational needs of working adults. The collaborative learning format allows students to identify the leadership issues of their communities and propose solutions for them from a faith based perspective. This encourages the integration of their faith and their learning with their leadership. This approach enhances the leadership roles of students who have assumed leadership responsibilities before they enroll at the College and it encourages students to assume leadership roles upon graduation if they have not already done so. 5. The College has offices, classrooms and library services at its main campus on Mallory Station Road in the Cool Springs area of Franklin.
Impact
In the increasingly secular industry of higher education, it is our commitment to remain steadfast in teaching all of our classes from an undeniable Christian worldview. As a result, students from all religious and cultural backgrounds are exposed to the truth of the Gospel, guided in discovering their unique gifts and abilities, and thoroughly equipped to live our their calling in the road ahead.
Throughout the years, countless students have sharpened their missional focus in our classrooms and graduated to "live sent" in the world for Christ. As you can see in our "What are WC Alumni Doing Today?" video, many of our graduates are spread across the globe impacting communities through powerful initiatives, such as church planting, sharing the gospel in large companies, fighting for social justice in human trafficking and child soldiering, and ultimately, making waves in the Kingdom of God. The education these students receive at Williamson College allows them to lead healthy, effective organizations and raise up new Christ-centered leaders... all from a foundation that is rooted in an unshakable, biblical worldview.
Your giving directly impacts our students through the funding of our scholarships. Nearly all scholarships we award in-house are unfunded, meaning it takes alternative revenue streams, such as donations and grants, to replenish our means to continue operation. We thank you in advance for helping us to educate more future leaders... rest assured, you are making a difference!
Needs
Our desire is to raise $250,000 to provide funded scholarships for current and prospective students, hire new faculty members, and provide the ability to add vital new programs in Ministry Leadership and Business Administration.
CEO Statement
In the spring of 2021, Williamson College activated a list of eight guiding principles for our college culture. One principle, that applies directly to the discovery of truth, is the ability to think biblically and analytically in considering competing viewpoints.
That principle reminds us that analysis of competing viewpoints is conventional in college. While Williamson College is traditionally conservative, as well as theologically and biblically orthodox, we will make intentional efforts to present students with ideas both right and left of center. We must allow our students the freedom to research, quote, interview, and befriend people and ideas without fear of being labeled as guilty by association. Was Jesus himself not constantly accused of fellowshipping with sinners? We must give one another the freedom of visiting in the home of Zacchaeus without fear of accusation (Luke 19:1-10). Recall, Jesus reserves some of His harshest words in scripture for the religious elites.
In an unpopular defense of British soldiers in the courtroom, future President John Adams, an astute legal mind in the founding of our experiment in democracy, remarked, "Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictums of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence" (McCullough, 2001, p. 68).
The prophet, Jeremiah, spoke these words to the exiles in Babylon, "Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel...build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat their produce; take wives and have sons and daughters...But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare."
As we seek the welfare of the city, we must be diligent to understand the culture and function of the city. That will require life-long learning, acquiring additional tools that will enable us to co-labor with community leaders, non-profit organizations, corporations, governmental institutions, and non-governmental organizations throughout the world. This is the essence of what 18th Century British parliamentarian, Edmund Burke, referred to as the little platoons of society. Or, as with the concept of subsidiarity, effective work taking place at the lowest, most decentralized part of society.
To hold true to our calling, Jesus' last words to His followers were, "You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth" (Acts 1:8). This must always be our guiding compass - witnesses to the life-changing gospel of Christ.
