CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments
The most important management-related challenges involve the school's growth. Instead of allowing the school to grow in a rapid, haphazard way, we are opting to take things slowly. Our approach is proactive, controlled and organized with increases in faculty and staff tracking with the addition of new programs and accompanying new students. It's important to note that when The Edison School was founded, we began by serving students in grades 3 through 6 but it was always our intention to add more grades. In our second year of operation, we added seventh grade. In our third year, the 2014/15 academic year, we added eighth grade and in 2015/16 we added Kindergarten (Project Jumpstart), 1st grade, and 2nd Grade. On January 8, 2019 we were approved for pre-Kindergarten. In August of 2020, we opened a satellite campus in Wilson County. At the end of the 2021-2022 school year we made the difficulty decision to close our satellite campus during to low enrollment (after being open for 2 years enrollment was only 6 students). As we move forward to serve the needs of students with learning differences in our area, we are looking to add all 4 grades of a high school by the 2023-2024 school year. This will take place by adding one grade level per year until the 2023-2024 school year . Our high school will offer a regular diploma, alternate academic diploma, and special education diploma for students. |
