Description
The onset of COVID-19 caused an immediate and major disruption to in-person hospital programs and volunteers. Fortunately, through the support of integral Middle Tennessee partners, MOC had 5 years of cultivating and building the essential program partnerships and infrastructure of its Virtual Program.
Using quality streaming technology, including new Zoom video conferencing, and customized live program streams for partners, this program enables the organization to transcend the barriers and isolation of the pandemic and continue ensuring that patients, their family members and caregivers are able to continue receiving the emotional support and mental health benefits of live music programming. Each Virtual Program provides interactive live music performances, including song requests, which are broadcast from the safety of musicians' homes to TV monitors and tablets at the bedsides of patients.
Program Successes
"Over this past year, we have been able to experience first-hand the unique and impactful benefits of Musicians On Call's live music programs across our campus. With the enormous uncertainty and disruption brought on by COVID-19, MOC's Virtual Program has offered a much-needed presence of consistent uplifting and comforting experiences for our residents, their visiting family members, and our staff; which continue to work and recover among historically challenging circumstances. In addition to our Life Engagement team and Care Partners, we would normally have several volunteers a week coming in to provide enriching activities with our residents; however, COVID-19 visiting restrictions has paused that. So having 'Musicians On Call' offer their programming through an online platform has been wonderful for our residents. They have really enjoyed the online concerts and special performances weekly!" -MOC Nashville Healthcare Partner

Short-term Success
Since 2020, the organization has established and sustained weekly virtual programming at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's hospital and then slowly continued expanding to reach additional demographics and healthcare environments like Alive Hospice, Centennial Women's and Children's Hospital, Abe's Garden Memory Care, Ascension St. Thomas facilities, and TriStar Medical facilities.
Through this Virtual Program model MOC was able to ensure that Veterans and those hospitalized during the holidays were still able to celebrate the times of the year that mean the most to them through virtual concerts. In November, Musicians On Call delivered a week-long "Concert for Veterans" which broadcast MOC supporters like Sheryl Crow and Brad Paisley into the rooms of hospitalized Veterans where they dedicated songs and offered support and gratitude for their service.
In total, this program has served over 40,000 hospitalized children, adults, seniors, Veterans and their caregivers.
Program Success Monitored By
MOC tabulates, tracks, and records the weekly and monthly totals of patients and caregivers who experience the Virtual Programs. This data is organized, using the Salesforce CRM database, to report on the growth towards increasing the frequency of recurring weekly hospital programs in Middle TN. MOC also uses these figures to quantify the percentage of total program growth at both weekly and monthly intervals.
