Mission
Our mission is to rescue as many cats and kittens from the streets and high-kill animal shelters in the Middle Tennessee area and then adopt them into loving forever homes. All of the cats who come through our program are spayed or neutered, tested for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus and Feline Leukemia Virus, and vaccinated before they are placed up for adoption.
Background
Nashville Cat Rescue began in 2005 with the sole purpose of rescuing cats and kittens from off the streets and from high-kill shelters and then adopting them into loving homes. We believe in spaying and neutering before adopting our cats out, and we only adopt out to indoor-only, no-declaw homes. Follow-ups are done on our adopted cats 2-3 weeks after the adoption date, and we pride ourselves on being knowledgeable about our cats so that we can assist adopters with any questions they have.
Impact
Accomplishments: In November of 2023, we hit a huge milestone for our organization and hired our first full-time staff member! We realized that our organization had grown beyond our ability to run it as volunteers, and that we needed someone who could devote themselves full-time to the mission. Since hiring a director, we have been able to increase our base of foster homes, partner with veterinary clinics for high-volume spay/neuter days, and take our mobile adoption unit out to schools in order to teach students about our program. We are looking forward to increasing our impact with community spay/neuter days in addition to increased programming in the community. Nashville Cat Rescue has celebrated over 20,000 adoptions since our inception in 2005, and we are currently partnered with three Petsmart stores, two Pet Supermarket stores, and one Pet Supplies Plus store. These partnerships allow us to showcase our fully vetted, adoptable cats to hundreds of people a day! We are incredibly grateful for our volunteers who work so hard for our organization! In the upcoming year, fundraising will be an important goal, as our vetting costs have skyrocketed. Our ultimate goal is to purchase our own veterinary clinic that can serve as our base of operations, since we do not have a facility.
Needs
1. Funding for spay/neuter surgeries. 2. Additional veterinary partners willing to work with our limited funds. 3. Foster homes for our cats and kittens.
4. Volunteers for our adoption centers.
