Learning Matters conducts psycho-educational and diagnostic assessments. Psycho-educational assessments clinically evaluate cognitive, academic, and literacy skills to diagnose learning disabilities. Diagnostic assessments are customized to the student's needs, typically covering reading, spelling, comprehension, and written expression. Our assessment team includes Clinical Psychologists who work in schools and are faculty at local universities. The team analyzes assessment data and background information to create an individualized report and provides feedback meetings with parents to discuss the student's profile and intervention recommendations.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments
Assessment and interventional tutoring are financially out of reach for many families. Learning Matters is the only organization in Middle Tennessee that provides this holistic approach to helping students and does so on a sliding fee scale. Unfortunately, many of the 80% of economically disadvantaged third graders in Tennessee who urgently need intervention face obstacles to attaining it. The high school dropout rate for students with Dyslexia and other learning disabilities is nearly 35% or more than double the national average, and a staggering 85% of prison inmates are Dyslexic. Many teacher preparation programs provide little, if any, training on identifying and instructing Dyslexic students. While these statistics are grim, Dyslexic students can thrive with proven interventions addressed in our programming. |
