Our Proverbs 22:6 Children's Program is built on the principle, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it." We ensure every child who comes through our door receives the richest experience possible by providing them with proper assessment, individual counseling, family counseling, a tutor, and a mentor. Many of our children have never learned to play as they were forced to take on adult problems and responsibilities during the mother's addiction. We strive to help children regain their childhoods by removing the adult stressors they were forced to manage at an early age. It also provides after-school activities for mothers and children, outside field trips for the mother and child to experience together, participation in school activities the families cannot afford, educational outings, crafts and materials, cooking and nutritional projects, and recreational activities.

Description
Blue Monarch is a long-term, residential program that can ultimately last up to 3 years. The core program is typically 18-24 months, sometimes longer, and the WINGS Transitional Program for Graduates offers an additional year of support as our graduates adjust to life outside Blue Monarch with a job or school. The following services are provided: Counseling and addiction recovery, spiritual growth, hands-on parenting coaching, a rich children's program uniquely designed for the child's recovery, life skills and healthy living, work ethics training, on-site job training and employment through Out of the Blue Granola, and transitional program and housing for graduates.
Program Successes
As our program has become more effective and much richer, the success of our graduates has also reflected these developments. We currently have three Blue Monarch graduates on our staff, and a resident from our very first year is now the Program Director. The most recent graduates include: one who is becoming a pilot, a dental assistant, a medical assistant, one working toward being an x-ray technician, and one who just completed her bachelor's degree.

Long-term Success
We serve a population that represents generational abuse and addiction, in addition to a history of poverty and reliance on government assistance. The long-term success we see is our graduates' breaking those cycles and entering a life that is unlike anyone else in the family tree. Every aspect of their lives becomes healthier - the way they spend their money, the way they spend their time, the way they solve problems and conflicts, the way their parent their children, and their overall outlook on life.
Short-term Success
Many important aspects are expected to change right away once a woman and her child enter our program. The child is immediately in a safer, more secure environment that impacts his or her emotional wellbeing, and healthier lifestyle habits are developed. Great emphasis is placed on the relationship between the mother and child, and our staff walks alongside them through this transition as they begin to recover together. Blue Monarch provides a nurturing environment where the basics of survival are no longer a challenge and the family can begin to heal.
Program Success Monitored By
We measure three areas during the first year following the completion of our core program: incarceration, maintaining visitation or custody rights of children, and being able to maintain a job or school. Since we began our WINGS Transitional Program for Graduates in 2016, our success rate in these three areas is currently 93%. This is a 16% increase from the years prior.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments
Amazing transformations take place in the lives of the women and children of Blue Monarch. I feel we are changing the family tree as the women and their precious children learn a healthier lifestyle. Many of the women at Blue Monarch have been taught to use drugs by their parents and grandparents. I am pleased to witness the breaking of this tragic cycle as children are learning a new way of life and are not exposed to some of the hideous conditions their mothers were. One of the saddest aspects of methamphetamines is how it destroys a mother's nurturing instinct for her children. Since our program is 18-24 months, this gives time for the drugs to finally leave the system, and that bond to develop between a mother and her children - usually for the first time. The restoration of families so wounded by drugs is by far the most important aspect of our program. I have witnessed a number of women who have arrived at Blue Monarch hardly knowing their own children, and have left as healthy, caring mothers. Of course, our goal is for every woman to successfully complete the program, but even those who have left prematurely have later told us that their children's lives have been forever changed as they desire a more structured lifestyle and have fond memories. I feel a big part of what we do is help to replace very sad memories with good ones. It is truly humbling to be a part of this amazing process. |
