CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments
Nashville Children's Theatre is passionately dedicated to reflecting our community. Since the tenure of Artistic Director Ernie Nolan, 51% of the artist contracts have gone to artists of color, compared to 8% before his arrival. But representation is not only important on our stage and classrooms, it must be within the leadership as well. Due to strategic partnerships and planning, the Board of Trustees not only elected its first African American Chair in the organization's 90 year history, but also grew BIPOC members of the board to 41%. These efforts were recently acknowledged and featured in a national webinar hosted by TYA USA, the national children's theatre organization. In June of 2021, the organization was also honored with The Nashville LGBT Chamber of Commerce's Leadership in the Arts Award citing its mission to be a safe and inclusive haven for all. Despite challenging times, the organization is in a strong financial place. The Board of Trustees has helped staff with financial strategy, policy, and planning. The organization continues to aggressively tackle any debt and is confident that the line of credit will be paid off in the next year or two. |
