Over the last 20+ years, Columbia State Community College, First Farmers Bank and other sponsors and patrons have successfully brought local and world-renowned artists to perform on the Cherry Theater stage as part of the Performance Series. Past seasons have featured international performances from Russia, Ireland, and Canada, as well as acts from Nashville, Baltimore and other U.S. cities. The Series has featured an eclectic mix of shows ranging from the Nashville Symphony, to the Cumberland Playhouse, to the Platters.

The CSCCF provides support where needed to Columbia State's extended campuses to assist with maintaining facilities and other needs. Columbia State Community College was established in 1966 as the first two-year institution in the state of Tennessee. The college currently offers more than 50 areas of study at its five locations (campuses at Columbia, Franklin, Lawrenceburg, Lewisburg, and Clifton, Tennessee.) The college serves nine counties: Hickman, Lawrence, Lewis, Giles, Marshall, Maury, Perry, Wayne and Williamson. Of the approximate 5,500 students enrolled, more than half will transfer to four-year institutions for completion of academic work. The college also awards Associate degrees and technical certificates.

| On March 25, 1967, when President Lyndon Johnson and Lady Bird Johnson came to the new Columbia State campus to dedicate it as the first community college in Tennessee, the First Lady declared that Columbia State represented the 'new beat and rhythm of our land.' In the current challenging and unsettling times, Columbia State's rich heritage of educating citizens and strengthening communities is being sustained by the leadership and dedication of the Foundation, which has kept the 'beat and rhythm' going since its formation in 1971. The CSCCF has consistently met its goal of providing scholarships to students and wants to expand its efforts to provide more and larger scholarships. Taking a leadership role in fundraising for new buildings, equipment, programs and initiatives is a vital function of the CSCCF as it works to fulfill its mission. |
