CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments
Leadership opportunities abound at JLN. JLN is governed by a Board of Directors that handles policy issues and contractual matters. The Board is accountable to the entire membership. All active members have a vote on critical matters such as dues, leaders slated by a Nominating Committee and community projects. The work of JLN is completed by committees, which range from community projects to fundraising events to administrative tasks. Each committee is assigned to one of five Councils (Community, Development, Finance and Operations, Marketing and Membership); each committee chair reports to a Council Vice President. The JLN President functions as the CEO of the organization for a one-year term. The member who agrees to serve as President typically treats the position as they would a full-time paying job. This leader is the spokesperson for JLN, has the authority to sign contracts for JLN on behalf of the Board and the membership and is responsible for motivating members to fulfill their volunteer commitment through JLN. The Managing Director is a staff position that functions like an Executive Director providing continuity between volunteer leaders. Paid staff at JLN is lean in order to direct the most funds possible to community projects, volunteer training and committee activities. The role of staff is to facilitate the work of volunteers and to enable leaders to be successful during their term. |
