Junior League of Nashville
Programs
Budget
$5,000.00
Description
All Booked Up is JLN's signature literacy event designed to be a fun and inspiring workshop for at-risk children in low-income areas of Nashville. The event is organized to motivate young readers while giving them books to start their own library.
All Booked Up has imagination stations, character meet-and-greets, a musical workstation, a food literacy station, and Feature Readers. The workstations and Feature Readers are manned by local "celebrities" such as Mr. Bond the Science Guy, Metro Firefighters, and Police officers. Everything is designed to allow children to incorporate reading into the task at the station. The most long-lasting part of the event is that each child leaves with a full bag of new, high-quality books to start their own home library (13-15 books each). This impactful activity encourages children to continue to develop their reading skills at home.
Beneficiaries
Children
Families
At-Risk Populations

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments
JLN's Program Community Gifts: Grants and Volunteers encompasses the work of approximately 250 Active members in 8 different community agencies. This category could be broken down into many programs with numerous specific outcome measures related to the delivery of direct services to community agencies and their clients. In addition to our ongoing commitment to the Junior League Home at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, agencies slated to receive JLN volunteers in 2024-2025 include The Aloe Family, Book'em, East Nashville Hope Exchange, Nashville Book Connection, Hope on the Row, Tennessee Justice Center, Nashville Diaper Connection, and Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. Just as important as volunteer service in the community is the training and support of volunteers themselves. JLN is intentional about building leadership skills in women and raising their awareness of pressing community issues and solutions. The key to our continued effectiveness is the recruitment of new members from all parts of the Nashville community. JLN continues efforts to diversify its membership base so that our organization remains as responsive as possible to the diversity of needs within our community. |
