CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments
Centerstone's Foundation is fortunate to have the excellent counsel and leadership of a dynamic Board of Directors. The Foundation Board of Directors has and uses a systematic process for assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the composition of its board membership. Strengths and weaknesses are assessed in terms of demographic characteristics, expertise, and skills. The board profile is used to identify the personal characteristics and expertise/skills desired in new recruits to the board. Recruitment of board members is systematic and rigorous in that potential members are thoroughly informed as to the mission and goals of the organization; its financial position; and the time, effort, level of contributions, and fundraising activities expected of them. Potential members are interviewed by a board committee as to their motives and interests in volunteering for board service. Board members commit significant time to board duties, not only by attending board and committee meetings but also preparing for meetings and undertaking other assignments. The board works as a team. We use processes of assessing the performance of the board as a whole and the performance of individual members. The board's basic responsibilities are to: - Support Centerstone's mission and purpose - Select the Chief Executive for the Foundation - Support the Chief Executive and Assess Their Performance - Ensure Effective Organizational Planning for Philanthropy - Personally Responsible for Giving to Centerstone and Growing our Philanthropic Reach - Ensure Adequate Resources - Ensure Effective Endowment Management and Growth - Enhance Centerstone's Public Standing - Ensure Legal and Ethical Integrity and Maintain Accountability - Recruit and Orient New Board Members - Assess Annual Performance for Centerstone's Foundation President David Guth, CEO, is responsible to the board for the effective management of the Centerstone enterprise, and for building a shared vision and strategic plan to accomplish that vision. The Foundation Board is one of several boards that work in tandem to support the mission of delivering care that changes people's lives. |
