Mission
The mission of My Father's House Nashville is to provide shelter, parenting education, recovery information and life skills for fathers coming out of institutions or possibly homelessness so that they may gain or regain their independence while transitioning into society.
Background
Thomas Gooch, founded My Father's House in 2014, as a transitional facility for fathers struggling with substance use disorder.
Thomas Gooch grew up with an absentee father and spent years going in and out of jail , prior to and after having kids of his own. A Nashville drug-court rehab program helped him break the cycle as a drug-addicted dealer and allowed him to regain his life back. This set him on a path to help other men who struggled with abandonment and addiction like he did. In 2004, Gooch was relased by the judge spent six years working at cleaning jobs and going to recovery meetings. Gooch eventually landed a job with the Davidson County court teaching job skills. A recovery mentor challenged him to come up with a mission for his future. That mentor was Samuel A. McMaster, a nationally recognized recovery expert with decades of experience in academia and the treatment field. In 2014, Gooch founded My Fathers's House Nashville as a transitional facility for fathers struggling with substance use disorder after coming out of incarceration. Gooch named the organization "My Father's House" as suggested by Mr. McMaster. Gooch continues to serve as a mentor for residents, showing them how to deal with the court system and with their child's (or children's) mother and other issues including parenting, budget planning, health awareness, job preparation, and transitional planning.
