Since the Shelby Foundation was formed in 2009, the following funds have been either paid to Harris-Hillman Special Education School or used to pay for renovations at the school. 2009 $65,000 check to Harris-Hillman 2010 $65,000 check to Harris-Hillman 2011 $100,000 ($90,000 to Knestrick Const. for physical therapy room $10,000 check to Harris-Hillman 2012 $81,000 ($72,000 to Flaghouse for Snoozelen Room at Harris-Hillman $9,000 check to Harris-Hillman) This project is on-going, therefore; this is an estimate based on the design plan and estimate from vendor. In 2015, $151,369 was paid directly to contractor to complete the enclosure of the in-ground trampoline room. An overhead lift was installed in the room for an additional amount of $12,983. In 2016, $250,000 grant received as initial funding for young adult day program to be established.In 2017, $11,840 was paid to purchase Eye Gaze Communication Equipment for Harris-Hillman School. In 2018, $58,000 was paid to Metro Nashville Public Schools to fund Physical Therapy Room Teacher Position and $2850 was spent to purchase physical therapy equipment.
The Shelby Foundation considers to provide financial support to organizations that provide programs and services to children and young adults with disabilities. Friends Life Community and Empower Me Center received proceeds from the annual Shelby Golf Scramble & Auction in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
Shelby Hickman passed away in January 2022. The Shelby Foundation received memorial funds to continue Shelby's legacy of Do what you can, where you are, with what you have.
