In 2023, Harvest Hands hired an in-house counselor who provides individual and group counseling for students in our programs and their families. The adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) of our students were amplified by the effects of the pandemic, and many mental health resources are inaccessible due to cost and transportation. Our students are now able to address feelings of insecurity, isolation, and anxiety caused by ACEs. By providing these services in-house, we break down barriers of access and stigmas commonly associated with mental health in our community, allowing all students access to this service.

We believe a healthy community and healthy living go hand-in-hand. Due to transportation and financial barriers, many students in our communities are unable to participate in school-sanctioned sports. In order to meet this community need, we created Empower Sports: affordable, local sports leagues and wellness opportunities for youth. Similar to our model for out-of-school programming, we charge $25 per student per league in order to provide service with dignity. We currently offer flag football, basketball, and soccer leagues for students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. In addition to Empower Sports, we seek to incorporate healthy living principles in our out-of-school programming. After school and throughout the summer, students have the opportunity to participate in yoga classes, urban gardening courses, cooking lessons, health fairs that teach about nutrition, exercise, disease and illness prevention, and more.

Humphreys Street exists to employ and empower youth in order to develop leaders and provide pathways out of poverty. We accomplish this mission by employing students and young adults in underinvested South Nashville neighborhoods to create craft coffee and homemade body products. Students are hired after school to roast coffee, make soap, package products, participate in sales events, and work in our coffee shop as baristas, cashiers, back of house staff, and more. Alongside earning an income in a neighborhood where few positive economic opportunities exist, high school students employed at Humphreys Street gain local access to financial literacy training, mentoring, and career coaching.

Harvest Hands furthers education in our communities is through out-of-school programming. Our elementary and middle school out-of-school programs provide a safe place for students pre-K through 8th grade to receive homework help, benefit from leadership development , receive mentoring and access to positive role models, and engage in arts, sports, and cultural activities. Concepts learned in school are reinforced through activities related to literacy, math, and STEM. Staff members, interns, and volunteers serve as mentors and create the stability, consistency, and structure that is lacking in many of our students' lives. We aim to raise up a generation of leaders from our neighborhood.
Before the 2023-2024 school year Harvest Hands opened its second after-school program center, Harvest Hands at Harding Place. Additionally, we opened our third after-school program site at Whitsitt Elementary School before the 2024-2025 school year where we can serve additional students.
