RJ's Experience: Below are some examples of their greatest accomplishments. RJ completed the Trauma Response & Crisis Care For Movements (TRACC)- BIPOC Healer Network, Movement Trauma, Healer Training Program, Level I, Spring 2021- 250 Hours- We are a project responding to trauma in social movements: providing community care, triage trauma and crisis response on the frontlines, & healer training and education to support activists and social movements. We believe that we are in a sociopolitical moment which multiplies the impact of trauma and burnout for activists and community organizers. We see this as equivalent to a public health crisis and one that we, in TRACC4Movements, as healing care providers, have a responsibility to respond to in an organized, ethical and coordinated way. They helped organize the First Annual Southern Encuentro of Latinos in the Deep South: Organizing the annual Encuentro (Gathering) of Latinx people working on ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the South. Capacity and coalition building among HIV+ southern Latinx people, community organizers, HIV/AIDS advocates, case managers, and leaders. RJ co-founded the Southerners on New Ground chapter in Nashville TN. And led the Black Mama Bailouts Campaign: #FreeBlackMamas is an annual campaign by National Bail Out seeking to raise awareness about the human and financial costs of money bail and emphasize its impact on Black mothers and caregivers. Every year since 2017, we've coordinated tactical bail outs nationwide - called #BlackMamasBailOuts - to free Black mamas and caregivers so they can spend Mother's Day with their families where they belong. RJ participated in the Just Hospitality Campaign: A multi-year campaign to qualitatively improve wages and conditions among Nashville cleaning workers. Housekeepers won over $13,000 in unpaid wages. They also helped Nashville Community Defense/Defensa Comunitaria: Nashville Community Defense is an immigrant and refugee-led rapid response to ICE raids and abuse. |
