Mission
We are an inclusive dance studio that empowers individuals of all ability levels to learn life skills through dance. We use the power of movement and music to transform our students' lives while providing a nurturing, inviting community for our dancers.
Background
MOVE Inclusive Dance was founded on the idea that dance should be accessible to everyone. 25% of people have some type of disability and for many, that limits their opportunities to participate in something as simple as a dance class. We exist not only for these individuals, but for EVERYONE to come together through movement!
Our program launched in 2018 as a week long summer camp for individuals with Down syndrome. Over the next year, we expanded the program to individuals with any type of disability, hosting various workshops and another round of camps that summer. In August 2019, we opened our doors to our very own studio in the Bellevue area of Nashville. We now serve individuals with and without disabilities, making our program completely inclusive to all.
Impact
In 2019, we raised over $100,000 to open a full-time dance studio for our students. Having our own space allows us to offer year-round programming through our weekly classes and programs. We currently see 60+ students a week, with 97% of those students having a disability of some kind. Our studio is one of the only inclusive studios in the country, making us very unique. Because of this, we have received various press opportunities, on a local and national level.
Since our studio's opening, we've launched a virtual program that serves students across the US. We have partnered with many other local organizations to further our impact and we've put on several public performances for the community. In 2023, we successfully served over 1,000 students through all of our programs combined! This number was just 358 the year prior. This is just the beginning of our story, and we feel confident that our organization will continue to grow and expand with every passing year.
Needs
We currently need funding to support us in the following areas:
- Rent/everyday operations
- Management salaries
- Marketing to reach new students
- Scholarships for students who cannot afford our tuition
