| Lydia's Experience: I have been a church servant, running the summer day camp and participating heavily in Sunday School services for almost 8 years. I also have worked heavily as a volunteer or as a job position in non-profits, while I was studying Middle Eastern Studies. I interned for Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition in the summer of 2015, and I worked for Vanderbilt Special Collections, where my interest for oral histories and community histories began. I also worked, while in Chicago, for two years, at a tutoring non-profit called Strive and helped the transition between two directors. Meanwhile, I also have written a bachelor's thesis on the Coptic histories of Nashville, and I've also written a master's thesis on Coptic diasporic experiences with Palestine, so I'm thrilled to begin the work on the ground level with Elmahaba Center as someone interested in histories, community-building and service. |
