Kerstin's Experience: I have strong communication, editing, event planning, writing and graphic design skills. I have been an active community volunteer in various roles. For 10 years, I coached basketball at the elementary, middle school and varsity levels. For six years, I was the treasurer and secretary for the Sewanee Elementary Parent Teacher Organization board. I was the treasurer of the Sewanee Youth Soccer program for six years, affiliated with the national AYSO. For three years I was the Auction Chair for the St. Andrew's-Sewanee School Parents' Council. I co-chaired the Sewanee Community Chest for three years. I have been involved with the Sewanee Civic Association, as member-at-large, vice president and president. My past work experience includes advertising specialist, event chairman, and technical writer for Computational Systems Incorporated in Knoxville, Tenn. I was a self-employed graphic designer, most notably for Industrial Communications, Incorporated in Knoxville, Tenn. For 15 years, I was the owner and operator of Shenanigans Restaurant in Sewanee, Tenn. I was a staff writer and sports editor for the Sewanee Mountain Messenger in Sewanee, Tenn., and the designer for one of their websites, The Mountain Now. I worked as a temporary assistant for the St. Andrew's-Sewanee School's Development Office, responsible for the Annual Fund. I am now the editor and publisher of the Sewanee Mountain Messenger, a free weekly newspaper serving the South Cumberland Plateau. I have been honored to receive both the annual Community Service Award and the Summa Cum Laude Service Award from the Sewanee Civic Association. Last year, I helped to raise almost $225,000 for this community. One was through a Pay It Forward/General Fund to raise money to help our local businesses get through the pandemic. Another was the 37375 Campaign, which raised money to help pay for PPP equipment and goods for local organizations. The other was the annual Sewanee Community Chest campaign. |

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments
The efforts of the Sewanee Community Chest are the result of the good will and immense kindness that community members show each year. The community is made up of many organizations that rely on the financial support of the Community Chest to achieve their mission of serving our community members. Without contributions, these organizations would not be able to provide the much-needed community resources and services. Everyone benefits from the resources provided by the organizations that receive financial support from the Community Chest. We have a long history of identifying needs and raising funds in the community. |
