Mission
37150 Community Center shall be a safe have for the community; focusing on the youth and senior citizens. The corp shall provide educational programming in the following areas: arts, STEM, workforce readiness, recreation, & wellness.
Background
During the 2019 Red Boiling Springs Economic Development Planning process the lack of youth activities, workforce readiness issues and the lack of recreational opportunities were identified. We took this information to the community through meetings and they identified that our elderly and all citizens also lacked wellness activities. After several community meetings the core group created the 37150 Community Center.
The organization members researched the above mentioned issues, and created a mission statement and bylaws to solve these issues.
Impact
October 2021- Hosted a Rock Art Contest/Show. There were 19 individuals that participated, each could submit up to three rocks. Rocks were selected because they are financially accessible to everyone in the community. Local bank provided their lobby to display the art and provided the award money for the winners.
October 2021-Hosted a Smash Bros Competition. There were 10 competitors. Expanding to a biannual event.
November 2021-Assisted another local nonprofit expand their Veterans Day festivities. Invited all Veterans for a flag raising ceremony, signing of the national anthem and served breakfast.
December 2021-Took over the RBS Nighttime Christmas Parade. The previous nonprofit could no longer manage. This is a community wide event for all citizens.
January 2022-Created the #LetsGrow37150 Challenge. Participants had to take a picture showing them do something healthy, post of their social media and tag our account. We had six participants that submitted their photos. Local business donated two gift certificates. In 2023 we plan to incorporate the school.
March 2022-We are coordinating a T-shirt design contest. This is open to anyone and the winning submission will become the design for our merchandise throughout the year.
March 2022-We are hosting the second Smash Bros Competition.
April 2022-We are coordinating the first Annual RBS Music Festival and Marketplace.

The 37150 Community Center will address many social needs in the community. It will provide an opportunity to expose the citizens to various subjects (Art, STEM, Workforce Readiness, Wellness & Recreation) that will change their lives and level the playing field with other communities.
However, finding a location has proven to be difficult. Most of the available buildings are not in good shape and many of the owners do not wish to sell. In addition, our entire historic district is in a flood zone. Which makes getting grants more challenging. Also, if we don't have a location--how can we write a grant. We are definitely in a catch 22 position with finding a place to call home.
The group has currently identified a property that another local nonprofit is trying to sell for the loan amount owed. We are having an inspection conducted to determine the quality of the structure and the potential cost of rehabbing the building. In addition to the funding in the bank (roughly $10,000), we have reached out to our City and County government, the regional development district, our State representative, and soon we will be visiting the leadership of all local businesses.
Once we overcome the location hurdle the center will create a cultural change like nothing this community has ever experienced. It will improve the quality of the environment and quality of life for all citizens. Once we address the most pressing social issues, the community can move forward to more progressive goals.
