Description
The complete misunderstood fixation of the Vape and the JUUL by adolescents. The susceptibility of the adolescent brain to this dangerous stimulant
The systemic dangers to the brain and body that is completely underestimated. The Tri-Fecta Gateway of Nicotine, Alcohol and Marijuana
Kids think it's safe because most parents think it's safe.
Student assembly: Engages students, opens their eyes and leads them to question their own misconceptions about marijuana and what it can do to the developing brain. Directly challenges their desensitized attitude toward vaping, e-juice and e-cigarettes. Educates as no other resource is doing.
Parent seminar: In-depth and eye-opening to prevalent use of electronic cigarettes and vapes among high school and middle school students. Gives parents the real scoop on how THC from marijuana is commercially available for e-cigarettes, and the connection and marketing being done directly to their kids.
Community seminar can be geared toward any audience:
Program Successes
We had a 4th grade child walk up to the speaker and gave him the vape he was using saying he no longer wanted to do it. This has happened many times in assemblies across the county.
Students who were experimenting with other drugs spoke with our presenters and talked to them about it and that they wanted help stopping use. They were given direction from counselors in their schools.
Other students came up to our speakers and told them things they have never voiced to anyone about their home situations etc. We had a 16yr old girl who told us she was being molested by her stepfather for several years, especially after her mother died of an overdose. She then went to the police dept and reported it. That man was found guilty of sexually abusing her and 4 other women in the community. He was sentenced to 135 years in prison. She is now a social worker helping other young girls who have been through the same sitiuations.
Now THAT is powerful!
Beneficiaries

Children and Youth (0 - 19 years)
Long-term Success
Pre/post survey results show that students understand and react to the information given after the assembly and use it to change the trajectory of their lives. Students bring vapes to educators and the presenters and voluntarily give them up. Students using drugs, smoking, or drinking and/or contemplating suicide are also positively affected. Parents and educators are also educated on this issue and use the information to combat this issue in the classroom and at home.
Short-term Success
Students turn in their vapes and begin to ask questions of themselves and others about the effects of using vapes, drugs, alcohol, and marijuana and what that may mean for their future.
Parents understand what a vape is, what thc is, fentanyl, and other drugs are and how kids can order these things online. They gain tools to use at home to begin meaningful conversations with their youth.
Educators use the information to help them take their classroom back and combat use in the classroom along with the disruptions it brings to others.

Steered Straight is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing the youth of America with a powerful message of prevention in order to steer them toward positive life paths. On top of the presentations and programs designed for students, we offer four Professional Development Seminars to educate teachers, administrators and professional staff on the behaviors, identification, laws and consequences surrounding the issues at hand. We also discuss methods for appropriately recognizing and addressing situations related to bullying, gang involvement, and drug and alcohol use/abuse. With a growing epidemic across America for drug overdose and overdose death, there has been a lack of real information for educators and parents about how this epidemic has migrated into communities. We cover how the age of first use, experimentation and regular, habitual use and abuse has lowered, hitting our kids at an even younger age. This seminar explains the signs and symptoms, and what to look for.
Program Successes
An educator did not know what a vape was and was able to spot a youth in her classroom vaping THC and removed him from it and got him to the counselor who helped the youth with a home situation that was not good, which was he was vaping: to escape it.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments
Right now, the biggest challenge is managing the growth of the organization. This would be in terms of both setting up the organizational structure with the necessary staff, and expanding this at the needed rate to meet the demand for our products and services as well as ensuring the availability of adequate working capital. All of this presumes we get standard foundational pieces in place such as legal counsel, a CPA on board, the establishment of our Board of Directors and so on. This is all rapidly coming into place at the time of this writing. The opportunities are boundless. With schools becoming aware of Steered Straight we have more and more requests for our assemblies. And this is just one area where our services our needed. Youth groups, police groups, religious group and correctional groups all desperately need what we can provide. Part of this wide range of opportunities, would be the future potential being created by the development of our Learning Management System (LMS) This will make it possible to extend the effect of our live assemblies right into the homes of thousands. The opportunities are boundless and are there for us just as fast as we can grow our organization. |
