CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments

Cori Anne Laemmel provides infectious enthusiasm and a clear vision that drives the mission of The Theater Bug. That mission is evident in every aspect of our board-related roles and responsibilities. Cori approaches every project with deep consideration for the human dignity of each child, parent, and audience member. Her desire to honor and value audiences this way is evident through the art she creates. The Theater Bug community is fortunate to have such compassionate and talented leadership in an Artistic Director. The success of this community continues to be measured by lives that are impacted positively by interacting, in any capacity, with The Theater Bug. The Bug has grown exponentially over the past few years, and, along with significant growth comes a measure of inevitable and manageable challenges. These challenges provide a tremendous opportunity for refinement and development.

As a member of the board, I find the most significant opportunity for refinement has come from our rapid growth. We have experienced tremendous growth ranging from our student-body to our Board of Directors, which inspires me. This growth requires a constant revisiting and refining of policies and practices to ensure common goals, a common language and a shared knowledge base around our efforts to ensure that the mission and vision of the Theater Bug remain intact as we develop.

Our student-body, and board of directors, have continued to grow and diversify over the past several years. We have been careful to seek and welcome a community of individuals that represent our vibrant and collective Nashville community. Based on our continuing dialogue around board priorities, we have developed targeted committees and subcommittees to activate the unique skills and abilities of our talented and committed members. With confidence, we continue in the search for
our permanent theatre home. We trust that our strengths-based board, possessing a broad range of professional backgrounds, will identify a space that honors the fundamental mission to provide free programming for our actors throughout the year.

Offering free programming requires that we secure alternative funding sources. We look to grants and donations to make it possible for our wide-reaching Nashville community to access the Theater Bug without regard for socio-economic status. One of the most significant challenges for our board is the continued effort to raise the funding necessary to ensure that Cori's mission, and that of the Theater Bug, continues to be made accessible to all of the children and families in the Nashville Community. Cori Anne Laemmel works tirelessly to inspire the next generation of young actors while making conscious choices to ensure that every audience member has the opportunity to see her or himself represented on the stage. The Theater Bug Board of Directors is committed to working diligently, as a collective, to make that happen.
