Caleb's Experience: In 2019, after 7 years as a police officer, Caleb Rogan decided to leave the police department and get involved in the nonprofit sector. Caleb had already spent years working with afterschool programs and also served as youth mentor during his stint as a police officer. It was his goal this time to work specifically with youth who lived in troubled areas within Nashville. During his time as an officer he had many run ins with juvenile youth during afterschool hours who had been involved in crime (both as suspects and victims) who were at the wrong place with the wrong crowd simply because they didn't have any safe place to be. It was his goal to create a safe place for these youth, who reminded him of himself. He wondered how much they could thrive if given the opportunity to participate in an impactful afterschool program. Today he enjoys building relationships with youth and being more than just a staff member they see afterschool, but as a cornerstone they can count on for years to come. |
