| James's Experience: James Brown is a Transportation Program Supervisor at Tennessee's Department of Transportation, where he has been employed for the past twenty years. After going blind as a teenager, James obtained his graduate and undergraduate degrees from Middle Tennessee State and Trevecca Universities. He is married to his wife, Crystal, who works as a pharmacy technician in Antioch, where the two of them currently reside. For seven years, James has served as the President of the National Federation of the Blind of Tennessee, where he has helped to write and pass several state and federal laws concerning equal rights for people with disabilities in Tennessee and around the nation. He has also served on the board of directors for the National Federation of the Blind, an organization with over 50,000 members who are visually impaired in the United States. He has traveled the country, speaking a message of hope to blind people, helping to manage an annual budget of almost $20,000,000 and creating programs to empower blind people to live the lives they want! In 2023, He also serves as the chair of the Nashville Mayor's Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities. James and his guide dog Vantis love people and consider it their mission in life to serve others. |
