The shelter operations program focuses on all aspects of the shelter with the ultimate goal of maximizing the save rate. Support includes a free spay/neuter program for low-income families, enhancements to the facility that reduce the spread of illness & support general health, a systematic approach to assess/train animal behavior, an adoption process that identifies good matches between owner and pet, and support of strong veterinarian operations within the shelter, providing external veterinarian care to address periods of high intakes or when specialized care is needed as well as equipment and medicines, and supporting the feral cat program to trap and spay/neuter feral cats in an effort to reduce the population.

For the last several years, the shelter has maintained a save rate for the animals of 95% which is best-in-class. The new shelter has allowed us to expand programs to meet the needs of the growing population in a humane and cost-effective manner.

The Paw Pantry program supplies families and area food pantries with pet food so that families that are in need are able to keep their pet and not have to surrender them to the shelter. We have expanded the program to provide adequate outdoor housing to those families needing assistance.
