Description
The Teacherpreneur program is designed to harness educator innovation by putting teachers in the driver's seat to develop ideas for systems-level change in Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS). A cohort of teachers, selected through a competitive application process, goes through professional learning on design thinking and change management while exploring inequities in our education system that pose barriers to student success. Through the Teacherpreneur experience, cohort members develop an idea for solving a specific challenge they see in their classrooms or schools, such as food insecurity, engaging educational experiences for kinesthetic learners, and resources for multilingual learners, and pitch their idea to a panel of judges. Winning ideas are awarded up to $10,000 in cash prizes for teachers as well as access to seed funding to pilot their ideas. Learn more at nashville.pef/teacherpreneur.

Description
Through a partnership with the district, NPEF launched Tech Goes Home, a program (based on a national model) that provides technology training and free laptops to families to help address the digital divide. In exchange for attending four training sessions on digital literacy, including how families can access MNPS-specific apps to track student progress, families receive a free Chromebook laptop. MNPS's Equity Roadmap helps determine communities that would benefit most from the program by identifying schools with the least access to resources and opportunities. The program launched in 2022 and has since spread throughout the district, serving economically disadvantaged families and families that speak languages other than English at home. Interpreters and child care, in addition to meals, are all provided to support equitable access to the program.

Description
The Nashville Public Education Foundation plays an important role in our community by providing research-based, relevant information on key topics affecting our public schools. To-date, NPEF has created a number of infographics, hosted webinars, and released policy briefs that help inform the community and generate conversation around solutions where needed. This has included resources educating about specific student experiences and needs such as English Language Learners, students living in poverty, and students with disabilities; resources informing on issues such as the school funding formula, the 3rd grade retention law, and the school options process; and resources pushing for change in areas such as college access and success and creating more equitable opportunities for students living in our city. These resources are all created with the intention of bringing awareness in particular to how these issues have an impact on low-income students and students of color.

Description
Every child deserves to thrive in school, but thriving schools do not occur by happenstance. They must be intentionally cultivated and sustained by the full commitment of our city and community. We envision a Nashville where every student is thriving in every school every day. And we all have a role to play in getting there.
With support from Metro Government, NPEF will develop resources that help families and stakeholders understand how to evaluate a school's progress beyond test scores. This work will build off of NPEF's Thriving Schools Framework, which outlines the six school conditions that need to be in place for students to thrive, such as effective school leadership, engaging instruction, and an inclusive culture. The project will explain how families and stakeholders can identify these conditions in their own schools and provide tools and resources to the community to help demystify the school selection process.
