STC's challenge is all-too common all non-profit arts organizations throughout the US - money. A non-profit theater cannot rely solely on ticket sales for support. STC also relies heavily rely on individual donors, recurring donors, financial partners, and private and corporate sponsors. The benefit is clear: by not being beholden to ticket sales, we can program more challenging and diverse material and not solely rely on material that is "comfortable" for our audiences- we have the freedom to offer more meaningful, thought-provoking pieces. Furthermore, our donors help us to keep our ticket prices uncommonly low, which means more access to more people. |
