We work together daily to ensure children and families receive the best coordinated care during child abuse investigations. | Each year, Nashville Children's Alliance (NCA) sees an increase in the demand for our services for children and families when there are allegations of abuse, or witness to violence. Children are on a wait list for trauma- therapy and NCA typically provides forensic interviews to over 400 children each year. Additionally, NCA coordinates the mandated Child Protective Investigative Team (Department of Children's Services, Office of the District Attorney General and the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department) during the investigation, prosecution and treatment of child abuse. This team meets weekly to review all reports of alleged severe child maltreatment in Davidson County. NCA provides assistance and support to the multidisciplinary team as well as direct services to children and families. To meet the constant increase of children who need free trauma therapy, the clinical team provides graduate level internships and interns assume a small clinical case load. The Director of Forensic and Family Services also supervises the forensic interviewers, family support specialists, and provides interviews for children when needed. Family Advocate interns are also utilized to help meet the demand for support and information to families. NCA continues to work diligently to pursue diversified funding sources. Direct service staff has been increased to help meet the current demands for services and sustainability of these services is a priority of both staff and board. The NCA Board of Directors is an exceptionally dedicated working board. The board hears directly about the NCA clinical and forensic interviewing programs at every board meeting. Therefore, the board is aware of the successes and challenges of the direct service staff. The direct services presentations at board meetings keep members focused on the needs of the community and the governance needed accomplish the mission. |
