Mission

In 1993 a group of people organized the Bordeaux Advocates to specifically provide extras for the people who lived at Bordeaux Hospital that were not in Metro Nashville's budget. When Metro Nashville stopped the day to day operations at Bordeaux in 2015, we then worked with lessee Nashville Community Care & Rehabilitation Center at Bordeaux (formerly Bordeaux Long-Term Care and Bordeaux Hospital). With the recent complete closure of Bordeaux by Metro Nashville at the end of 2020, we are now working with the J.B. Knowles Assisted Living and Adult Day Care facility which is located in the same complex as Bordeaux Hospital. We are providing activities and the activities we have since 1993!

Impact

Now more than ever the seniors of our community need groups like ours supporting and letting know there are those who care about them! The Advocates as we are fondly called, held several events this year as well as sending treats monthly for the residents to enjoy. The events were planting on Earth Day, Patriot Day Concert, a Corvette Car Show/Fall Festival and Christmas gifts for all! Through a grant funded by The Community Foundation we implemented both indoor and outdoor gardening which fostered group participation, getting the residents outside and of course growing fresh vegetables to enjoy!

We look forward to working with the Knowles Team and serving their residents in 2024!

Needs

This year we are focusing on gardening and nutrition! Raised garden beds along with planters for flowers were installed along with indoor planters and hydroponic garden. We are still working on fresh market ideas along with healthier snacks for all!

Board Chair Statement

I have served on the Board since 2016. The challenges we face now are a decline in contributions from our Metro Employee base we had with the Bordeaux Long Term Care Facility. We are proud to continue our original mission from years ago that we exist to help make these residents' lives better. We want to continue to bring things to these people that they may not otherwise be able to experience. Our board is very creative in bringing exciting activities with low cost to the residents!
