Description
During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, with school visits no longer possible, GCO created MAGICAL MUSIC & TIMELESS TALES - a series of 12 educational videos pairing elementary music teachers with GCO musicians for classic children's stories and engaging music. Classroom teachers narrated the story and created lesson plans for use both in school and in remote settings. GCO musicians selected and performed compositions chosen to illustrate the text and introduce students to works by established masters and underrepresented composers.

Committed to innovative educational outreach, the Gateway Concert Experience brings members of the GCO to public school instrumental rehearsal rooms in the weeks prior to concerts to present on the works from upcoming programs and to actively involve students in making music at a high level. Those students are then given the opportunity to attend the concert with their director and parental chaperones. The GCO has reached over 3,500 students in their classrooms since 2010 in various Middle Tennessee communities including Montgomery, Houston, Stewart, Davidson, Cheatham, Robertson and Rutherford counties.

America's Haydn Festival honors the father of the Symphony and the String Quartet, Franz Joseph Haydn. The Gateway Chamber Orchestra embarks on a new annual festival that will feature multiple concerts over five days at various venues in Franklin and Clarksville, Tenn. Spotlighting performances by string quartets and orchestra, the musical scope will span Haydn's career from beginning to end. Outreach to the local military community at Ft. Campbell is a key feature of this festival. This includes a string quartet performance on base, as well as '101 Tickets for the Military,' which provides military members and their dependents tickets to the Clarksville Masterworks performance.

With the support of the Tennessee Arts Commission, the Gateway Chamber Orchestra offers active-duty military, veteran service members and their spouses the opportunity to join a community choral ensemble to promote creative expression through music. Any adults from the military community with an interest in singing are invited to join. No previous experience is required, and there are no auditions or fees necessary. The goal of the TNMVA Chorus program is to offer the military community in and around Clarksville the opportunity to participate in music performance, as well as potentially benefit from the therapeutic effects of music. Description
The GCO's performances employ a distinctive programming philosophy with three components - established masterworks, overlooked treasures, and contemporary American works. Each program is performed twice ⎯ on Sunday afternoons in Mabry Concert Hall on the campus of Austin Peay State University in Clarksville and on Monday evening in various locations in Nashville. The GCO's performances have been praised in regional media such as the Leaf Chronicle and ArtsNash as "unfailingly sensitive," "achingly beautiful" and "polished perfection." Concerto soloists are drawn from the ensemble pool, as well as internationally acclaimed artists such as flutist William Bennett and clarinetist Boris Allakhverdyan. The 2018-19 season, our tenth anniversary, is titled 'Inspiration Abounds' and includes performances of works by two Middle Tennessee composers, as well as the establishment of the new annual America's Haydn Festival.

In 2012, a new Children's Concert provided 1,200 public school students the opportunity to see a performance in Mabry Hall at APSU in Clarksville at no charge to the school districts. The GCO collaborated with visual artists Black & Jones, who collected art submitted by elementary students based on the program's works and brought them to life with animation. They combined these animations with live video feed and various video loops to create an innovative multi-media presentation displayed with live music by the GCO. This annual event was expanded in 2013 to include a Family Concert featuring pre-concert opportunities for instrument exploration and craft projects for children. 2014 saw the first collaboration with an author when the GCO welcomed Anna Celenza to read from her children's book "The Farewell Symphony" as part of the performance. This collaboration continues into the present as she provides her existing books, as well as original scripts, for current and future programs.
