CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments

Challenges in working with ex-offenders are always present. This is a difficult group to work with as they are often under skilled, frustrated, anxious, and beset with a host of personal problems including health, relational, financial, and other problems. The HUGGS staff is aware of these problems and has the skills and experience to assist ex-offenders either cope with the problem or eliminate it with counseling sessions. Donors are skeptical of giving funds to ex-offender programs and HUGGS will be offering the community opportunities to better understand the barriers to successful reintegration and the necessity of helping ex-offenders make an easier transition from prison life to the community. One of the hallmarks of HUGGS is the reduction of recidivism of ex-offenders as communities can simply not afford the high financial and social cost of incarcerating so many young men and women when other alternative sanctions are available.
