CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments
Nearly all of the 2.4 million people incarcerated in the United States today - including the more than 20 thousand state inmates in Tennessee - will eventually be released (95%). Reentry is the process of transition that these individuals, predominately male and disproportionately non-white, make from prison or jail to the community. Aphesis House can currently house 28 individuals at a time in the agency's three residential homes. Research shows that savings total more than $72,200 yearly for each former offender who succeeds in not returning to prison. Utilizing this estimate, to the extent that Aphesis House can contribute to the success of only 50 offenders remaining crime-free and not returning to prison over a 12-month period, the economic benefit to the community exceeds $3.6 million per year ($72,200 x 50). |
