Description
We maintain a catalog of research projects to ensure the animals we rehabilitate and release are thriving in and out of our care, and that our education programming is effective. We present our work and findings annually at wildlife conferences around the United States. We are currently measuring the effects of laser therapy for wound healing in Eastern box turtles. We are also working to better analyze trends in human-wildlife conflict in Nashville, based on the huge volume of calls and requests we receive, and developing data platforms to enable us to share our data with the larger wildlife rehabilitation community. For every research finding we uncover, we make it a point to share it with the general public along with a related call to action.

This provides students that stay in after-school care with the opportunity to connect with wildlife they can find right outside their own home and school. Program participants play games, enjoy hands-on activities, and meet our local, native Tennessee wildlife ambassadors. This also provides an opportunity for us to (indirectly) reach parents and teachers, adults who can make a big difference in shaping minds and behavior. We believe it is essential that these programs include repeated visits, for lasting impact. We work with MNPS to select priority schools with particular attention to those without environmental education programming.
