Description
Travellers Rest continues to expand its public programs, often in response to requests from our community or special interest groups. Twelfth Night invites guests to wrap up the holiday traditions by all residents at TR. Toddlers at TR is a monthly program for children 18 months to 4 years on seasonally appropriate topics. Day out wit Mom brought familie together for music, tea, and fun activities. Juneteenth is dedicated to sharing stories of both enslaved and post-emncipation African American residents. Archeology Day uncovers prehistoric items for both children and adults, Trades Days features artisans skilled in historic trades demonstrating and presenting traditional crafts. Live@TR Songwriters Night is a family-friendly night of music on the grounds. Twisted Tennessee engages participants in real stories from Tennessee history in deciding innocence or guilt, murder of accident. Upon request, we host lectures, seminars, and programs requested by special interest groups.

Below are a few of the summer camps we offer: Jr Docent Training and Leadership - Junior Docents learn about interpretation, museum work, preservation, and leadership while fostering a commitment to service and historic preservation. Jr. Docents become leaders in our other camps and serve as volunteers throughout the year. History's Mysteries where children learn how we know what we know about history. Miss Mary's Academy - In this history immersion experience, campers will dress in period clothing and attend an 1817 female academy to learn skills like penmanship, dancing, and manners. | The coronavirus pandemic had a profound impact on daily attendance and our delivery of school programs. We addressed the crisis with an initiative to provide more and better quality digital content to better serve those who cannot physically visit us. Much of this materials is available on our web site. We also instituted use of an app called Kinfolk whereby visitors can visualize and access information about enslaved people who lived here through a QR code system. |
