Our approach to family transformation, restoration, and community rebuilding is like the "One-Stop-Shop System" designed to destroy the systemic external and internal elements that sustain poverty. Through our seven-point community resource distribution center, we provide Reading and afterschool resources for school-age children, a Book Drop Box, Reading Buddies; Computer Lab for Job search and completion of job applications; Assist Seniors/Elderly and disabled individuals with shopping and foodservice delivery; Distribute cleaning baskets, hygiene bags, non-perishable food, and grocery store gift cards; Distribute household items including furniture, bedding/linen, and small appliances; Provide financial assistance to help with rent and utilities, and Provide referrals to community-wide resources and counseling services.

Senior Services provides home visits, recreational activities, emergency food and transportation for seniors to doctor's appointments, prescription pick-ups and grocery shopping. We continue to seek an alliance with a general practitioner that focuses on geriatrics. This will enable us to provide wellness exams. We need to expand our transportation assistance for those who may not have family or anyone to assist them in their day to day activities along with increasing social events such as games or arts & crafts; and a transitional food boxes once a month which flows through the Family Kitchen. Program evaluation consists of identifying the number of elderly and disabled participants within the program and quarterly assessment through home visits. Transportation fuel, food and staff are needed to continue and expand this service.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments

There are two challenges that we have faced as an organization. First, is our ability to increase the number of donors from both the private/public and individual sector. Second, is our ability to identify and secure staff and volunteers who are not afraid to work and serve in the inner-city. As a result of the March 3, 2020 tornado and the COVID19 Pandemic, these challenges have become greater. We are also facing new challenges as we work to identify ways to meet the needs of the families we serve in the midst of COVID19.
Our staff is meeting via Zoom and continuing to work on our strategic plan and to enlist support from other organizations who are experiencing success in their fundraising efforts during these times.
