Description
The TECA Advocacy Academy aims to bridge the gap between the community and education policies that impact educators of color. Programming includes a deep dive into education policy at the state level, templates and tools participants can use to contact their legislators, and the opportunity to be in the community with local and state policymakers. Participation in the Advocacy Academy will lead to new education champions across the state who actively participate in the policy process.
Program Successes
Self efficacy. Participants are able to cite that they are more informed about education policy and advocacy than they were before the program. We've had over 100 participants in the program over the last two years.

In the next three years, TECA aspires to train 200 participants through the Advocacy academy. Over those three years, we want to position participants to leverage their expertise as to inform legislation with in the form of 30 different bills.

Having a total of 60 participants this fiscal year across multiple regions.
Program Success Monitored By
Surveys after every session (there are a total of three), and one at final survey as the program concludes.

In 2019, TECA plans to launch its hallmark program: the Tennessee Educators of Color Fellowship in Middle Tennessee. TECA will select a pilot cohort of 10-12 Fellows, who are current classroom teachers of color, by May 2019. They will receive approximately 30 hours of professional development throughout the year-long Fellowship. The intent is to scale the Fellowship across the state to include both West and East Tennessee for the 2020-2021 academic year.

As a nascent organization, many of the programs that we are developing will launch this year. Currently, with only a working board, this has limited our capacity to initiate some programming. It is our hope that we are able to secure support that allows our organization to be sustainable. |
