Mission
The Love Learning Music mission is to use music and fine arts to educate, equip, and empower the whole person, regardless of age, ability, or socioeconomic status.
Background
Love Learning Music started in response to the needs of the community. After experiencing the difficulties of growing up with a learning disability, John Bosworth began volunteering to help local children develop well. While providing tutoring and music education classes for underserved children, it became clear that music is the best element to improve development for children. Love Learning Music was granted 501(c)(3) non-profit status in 2016 after years of volunteering, providing music education and resources to underserved children. Now, Love Learning Music is serving people of all ages by providing therapy, education, and resources across Middle Tennessee.
Impact
During the 2023-2024 fiscal year, Love Learning Music made significant strides in expanding our impact across Middle Tennessee. We provided enriching music education and therapy services to 8 schools within the Extended Learning Program at Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS), reaching 295 youth. In addition to our school-based initiatives, we actively participated in Community Achieves partner showcases, fostering connections with new organizations and sharing our resources within the community. We also strengthened our collaboration with NAZA (Nashville After Zone Alliance), attending partner fairs and professional development seminars to enhance our team's educational capabilities and broaden our outreach across diverse communities.
This year marked significant growth as we expanded our programming to include three new partners and continued to serve two established partners during the summer. We received our first grants from the Tennessee Arts Commission, which funded impactful projects such as a performance by the Middle Tennessee Woodwind Orchestra and music therapy sessions benefiting underserved youth. Furthermore, our partnership with New Hope Academy allowed us to become the exclusive music education provider, culminating in the direction of their memorable Spring recital. In 2023, one of our dedicated teachers traveled to India and Bangladesh, empowering underserved youth and communities through songwriting and music creation.
Throughout the fiscal year, Love Learning Music remained committed to inclusive practices, collaborating with Linebaugh Public Library to offer sensory music therapy sessions for youth with sensory needs and providing lyric analysis classes at Nashville Public Library to help adults process emotions effectively. In total, our efforts touched the lives of 3,689 individuals, reflecting our dedication to leveraging music as a transformative force in education and therapy. As we look ahead, Love Learning Music is steadfast in our mission to expand our impact and empower more communities through the power of music and education.
In the fiscal year 2024-2025, Love Learning Music aims to expand our programs across Middle Tennessee, focusing on diverse demographic groups through innovative music therapy and education initiatives. At the Nashville Public Library, we plan to continue our lyric analysis program and add an audio production program. We will also continue the group music therapy sensory sessions at Linebaugh Public Library with a goal of holding at least one session per month. To reach the older adult population, we aim to partner with the TN Respite Coalition and TN Detox Center to deliver personalized music therapy. Moreover, we will enhance community engagement through educational initiatives like the MNPS Extended Learning Program, set to reach ten schools by the end of 2024, contingent on school funding. We will also increase our summer programs and specialized programs, such as the Advanced Rock Band, to provide youth with creative outlets, promoting teamwork and music proficiency.
Love Learning Music's strategic plan includes establishing a Music Education Program Director role to help with program efficiency and expansion. Fundraising remains pivotal for our sustainability, with planned events like a Benefit Concert to showcase student achievements, local talents, and garner community support. Partnership events and involvement in community gatherings will further our outreach efforts, connecting with new partners and potential clients. Grant acquisition is integral to our funding strategy, with a commitment to submit at least ten applications in 2024. Already awarded multiple grants, we will continue to leverage these resources to grow our impact and extend our reach in the community. Overall, Love Learning Music's impact for 2024-2025 underscores our dedication to using music therapy and education for developmental growth, community connection, and family support.
Needs
The need for therapy and adaptive education is increasing. According to the CDC, "Compared with 2019, the proportion of mental health-related visits for children aged 5-11 and 12-17 years increased approximately 24%. and 31%, respectively." In the fall of 2020, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Children's Hospital Association, and the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry declared an emergency in child and adolescent mental health. The mental, emotional, and behavioral health crisis we are experiencing impacts everyone in our communities. It is vital to unify and help one another to help others.
