Mission

The Love Learning Music mission is to use music and fine arts to educate, equip, and empower the whole person, regardless of age, ability, or socioeconomic status.

Background

Love Learning Music started in response to the needs of the community. After experiencing the difficulties of growing up with a learning disability, John Bosworth began volunteering to help local children develop well. While providing tutoring and music education classes for underserved children, it became clear that music is the best element to improve development for children. Love Learning Music was granted 501(c)(3) non-profit status in 2016 after years of volunteering, providing music education and resources to underserved children. Now, Love Learning Music is serving people of all ages by providing therapy, education, and resources across Middle Tennessee.

Impact

During our 2022-2023 fiscal year, we began music education and music therapy services in the Extended Learning Program at Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS). We participated in 5 schools, serving over 100 youth. Love Learning Music also began our partnership with the Community Achieves program at MNPS to connect with schools and provide resources and services for their youth and families. During the past year of this partnership, we provided volunteers and a board-certified music therapist to assist with Vacation Bible School and supplied meals for Howard University volunteers at Chadwell Elementary School. We also provided music therapy services as a resource to youth. Love Learning Music attended Community Achieves partner showcases virtually and in-person to connect with other organizations and share our resources with the community. Love Learning Music also began partnering with NAZA (Nashville After Zone Alliance) to offer our programs as a resource to youth and families of the community. We attended in-person partner fairs and a professional development seminar to grow as an organization in the education of our staff, and to connect with schools and organizations to offer our programs as a resource to those they serve. With attending partner fairs and a professional development seminar for Community Achieves and NAZA, Love Learning Music has grown exponentially in our number of partnerships. We provided music education and therapy programming this summer to six (6) new partner organizations and schools in Middle Tennessee. Lastly, Love Learning Music achieved an accomplishment of receiving our first grant from Metro Arts. This grant will go towards our general operations, helping us serve more people in need.

For our 2023-2024 fiscal year, Love Learning Music has a goal to expand our Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) Extended Learning Programming from serving 5 schools to 10 schools. Our vision is to include group programs such as music therapy, music education, and musical theater. Musical theater would be a brand new program for Love Learning Music and would include classes on improvisation, choreography, singing, and more. Another goal for Love Learning Music is to grow our current partnerships with local organizations such as TN Dept. of Substance Abuse & Mental Health, other 501c(3) non-profits, including Hope Kids, Move Inclusive Dance, Special Kids, Cave House Workshop, and Youth Villages, Rutherford County Schools, homeschool groups, nursing homes, and local libraries. Growing our current partnerships will increase our group and one-on-one music therapy sessions, music education classes, and private lessons. In addition to expanding our programming with the Extended Learning Program, Love Learning Music also has a goal to begin in-school music education and music therapy services for youth at MNPS. Lastly, Love Learning Music has a goal to increase program and salary fundraising through grant writing, partnership team development, corporate donations, and events such as a benefit concert and spring festival. We will continue our weekly team meetings to evaluate the impact of our services, provide peer support, create lesson plans, write grants, and coordinate events. We will have quarterly meetings with each partner organization to discuss current programs and potential expansion.

Needs

The need for therapy and adaptive education is increasing. According to the CDC, "Compared with 2019, the proportion of mental health-related visits for children aged 5-11 and 12-17 years increased approximately 24%. and 31%, respectively." In the fall of 2020, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Children's Hospital Association, and the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry declared an emergency in child and adolescent mental health. The mental, emotional, and behavioral health crisis we are experiencing impacts everyone in our communities. It is vital to unify and help one another to help others.
