Carolyn's Experience: Carolyn Naifeh has nearly 15 years of experience in international broadcasting and 15 years in non-profit management. She has worked in fundraising, program development, corporate relations, strategic planning, Board/donor relations, building audiences, and promoting corporate identity/branding. With the exception of one year in California (with the University of Southern California's Annenberg School) and one in South Carolina (with Best Doctors International), her home base was in Washington, DC, for 29 years. In Washington, she worked primarily with Voice of America (as a reporter and in management) and as a consultant with arts and education organizations, including the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts, the National Education Association Foundation and the Pearson Foundation. She moved to Nashville in April 2013 to open a regional office for the Pujols Family Foundation, whose work focuses on Down syndrome and on the poor in the Dominican Republic. Her non-profit work has included development work as well as the organization of national conferences, concerts, programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, presidential galas and educational workshops. In broadcasting, she worked as a researcher, reporter, correspondent, desk editor, and assignments editor with PBS, WTVF (CBS-Nashville), and Voice of America. Her clear and concise writing skills, along with a keen analytical ability, make her a particularly accomplished writer in a variety of formats. Starting with her work at the NewsHour, her journalism background helps her zero in on the crux of an issue. Ms. Naifeh lived abroad until college (Libya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Jordan, and UAE) and traveled abroad for work for 15 years (Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Romania, Thailand, and Uganda). She is fluent in Spanish, and proficient in Portuguese and French. She holds a BA in English and an MA in Latin American Studies, both from Vanderbilt University. |
